Vectors Of Disinformation Spew: Ron Paul’s FISA Bill Dissent

It’s fascinating to watch how disinformation gets fed into the datastreams. It also offers instructive lessons for any who actually believe that truth should triumph over “truthiness” wherever it is encountered, except on the battlefield of comedy. {One - Two}

On June 26, 2008, this blog published the following Congressional Records reprint verbatim:

Congressional Record: June 24, 2008 (Extensions) - Page E1325
From the Congressional Record Online via GPO Access DOCID:cr24jn08-15

It was noted in the post that just because it’s titled: “Speech of Hon. Ron Paul of Texas In The House Of Representatives, Friday, June 20, 2008″, does not mean that Paul actually spoke these words in the House of Representatives on June 20.  With a bit of quick searching, the document becomes strong evidence that Ron Paul engages in deceptive marketing practises:

  • No record of  Ron Paul’s June 20, 2008 speech, nor any record of Ron Paul whatsoever between June 20 and June June 24 inclusive can be found in C-SPAN’s Congressional Chronicle, which archives a video record of any remarks on the floor in either house that was greater than thirty seconds duration.
  • A Proper Citation for this statement, exposes it to be an Extension to the House Proceedings entered into the June 24, 2008 Congressional Record.
  • Ron Paul was in fact, on June 20, 2008, at the Montana Republican State Convention in Missoula, Montana, where he was a scheduled keynote speaker. Although there are many who profess a faith in Ron Paul that approaches deification, he is still only human, and cannot be two places at once.

Whether the numerous assertions, which can be found on the net, that Paul physically spoke on the House Floor, June 20, 2008, in dissent of the FISA Amendments Bill passage, were resultant from preponderate indolence, arrogant blind faith, Machiavellian turpitude, or Acute Intelligence Deficit Disorder (AIDD), need not be investigated to understand that it is without doubt, internet disinformation spew.

Primary Dispensers of This Farcicality

  • Ron Paul in the Flesh: Paul’s Official Goverment Endowed Webspace - Again, here’s this blog’s simple logic test:

    Derive the transparent corollary, using just the following two axioms:
    1): Politicians have lied, Politicians do lie, Politicans will lie.
    2): Ron Paul is a long-tme elected Republican Politician.

  • Lew Rockwell: Statement on FISA, by Ron Paul: referenced with a woefully errant citation - Statement on HR 6304, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments before the US House of Representatives, June 20, 2008. Beware the free fare of Austrian Schooled Gruel.
  • The Ron Paul Library’s not-factual citation: Statement on HR 6304, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments, 20 June 2008, Rep. Ron Paul, M.D. - A few quick look-up of this domain shows it has a stealthed ownership via Domains by Proxy, Inc., GoDaddy’s recommended WHOIS annonymizing service. Shared server account hosted on a GoDaddy server using an I.P.with over 3300 other domains.
  • Antiwar.com blog: Eric Garris, “Ron Paul on the Wiretap Bill“, June 24, 2008. Ron Paul explains why he is opposed to the “compromise” FISA wiretap bill (June 20) - The ADDPDG actually classifies AntiWar.com in the good-guy wonks category, but proper sourcing with a care for veracity is a significant factor in this analysis. Frequent slovenly sourced citations would result in its recategorisation in with the myriad of wanking wonks.
